The world becomes "curiouser and curiouser"

Image
Microsoft is moving its meetings to tree houses in the woods. Those rustic creations were executed by Pete Nelson from the TV show "Treehouse Masters". Microsoft is not the only company that is switching to new office solutions, Apple is showing off with its spaceshipy one, Amazon and Facebook are also on the way to fascinate us with theirs. If only they applied as much effort to their actual fields, you know... Or at least made their products less expensive, since they have so much money to renovate.    In other random news, Dubai police has a hover bike. It will be a nice addition to their tech collection consisting of the pilot-less passenger drone and the famous robocop (which won't be alone for long, they're planning to get him a big robofamily, in the amount of 25% of all police force... Should we be worried?).

New Book Releases of September: "Nyxia" by Scott Reintgen

Image
This September has been a very fruitful month for the book industry - a lot of new interesting releases, among which Nyxia by Scott Reintgen . It's a futuristic sci-fi novel about space travel and new habitable planets.    The events are set in the nearer future, but the differences in advanced technologies are quite fascinating. Even though the main plot reminds a bit of the movie Avatar created by James Cameron and Hunger Games book and movie series, this doesn't influence the fact that it's a very entertaining story with some unexpected turns and very likable characters whose personalities make the novel more relate-able and believable, together with the not so likable characters.    The people are well written and craft-fully developed, there are not so many things in the manner of Reintgen's storytelling that may distract the reader. There is one noticeable feature that some might find being overused - the appearance of capital letters for filing is

Jamie Oliver's Suv: Kitchen on wheels

Image
Why have a conventional classic kitchen when you can bring it with you wherever you go. Seriously, why not? A compact kitchen on wheels sounds amazing as a concept and thanks to Jamie Oliver it's become alive.    Jamie, who recently published a new book called "5 Ingredients: Quick and Easy Food" (which also got a show by the same name now), is always on the go, always travelling or making little trips with Genaro around Britain, so it's quite understandable that for a chef like Oliver there needs to be a kitchen that you can take with you. Land Rover was happy to help the famous cook with his brilliant idea.     This custom Discovery has everything you need to create a meal anywhere anytime. There's not only a toaster and a fridge but also extendable work counters, meat grinders, slow cookers in the engine bay, rear-window herb gardens and wheel-mounted butter churns. I even don't have all of that in my home kitchen! Shame on me, my ki

Avengers: Infinity war or battle of tongues

If you all remember, Guardians speak their own languages and have translator implants to talk between themselves. All works well (except for untranslatable word play, I guess) and everyone's happy. But... Property of Walt Disney Studio and Marvel Entertainment    Then comes the new Avengers movie and that's where it might get interesting. Avengers and Guardians are supposed to communicate (I wonder how Thor and Loki communicated before and spoke perfect English, I don't think they have English classes at school in Asgard; they don't even have a school there). So let's fantasize on the matter. 1. Tony Stark as a rich Moneybags McBuck can of course hire an interpreter for his crew, but what interpreter can match the speed of all the action? 2. Or maybe Jarvis can be used as a universal translator\interpreter but then again Tony needs to provide everyone with access to it. 3. About the same thing can be organized by the other party

Lapping the Peak: Ken Block hangs out in the mountains with his buddy Mustang

Image
His drifting abilities make all the guys swoon and his fame does such a number on girls that they forget how to breathe. Ken Block is definitely a master of grabbing world by the pedal world's attention.    This time he returns with a smoke-choking video from Pikes Peak that sets off a new series of drifting mayhem named Climbkhana. For this particular gig (that by the way was sponsored... of course) the bashful driver chose a 1965 Ford Mustang Hoonicorn RTR V2 with a 1,400hp twin-turbo (methanol fueled). Even though the speed is high and the surroundings are just flashing before his eyes in one fast blur, he lets us enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery, even if for a bit.    Someone might say that this one isn't as impressive as Gymkhana, but look at those dangerous mountain turns, surely none of you can do the same and keep the car on the road (unless you are Ken's rivals from different Rallycross championships, but you don't need to brag there either,

You've been tanked or a story of how one attorney overtanked the neighborhood

Image
People in the US are quite spoiled, not that much can surprise them these days. Dogs having Halloween photo-shoots in funny suits on the pumpkin patch and drones with a ghost figure attached to them flying around to scare the crowd - they have it all. But boy, were they really prepared for a tank on the streets? Apparently, not.     One clearly rich (and doesn't that mean really great at his job) attorney from Houston decided that a car lately isn't enough for him and bought a real tank. And not just a tank. It was a perfectly restored and still functional M4 Sherman that he got from overseas.    That grandpa has a whole fighting history of going through Europe and defeating Nazis during WW2. If it were a soldier made of flesh its chest would probably be proudly filled with lots of medals. This one in particular landed at Normandy and was used in liberating Paris after which it was taken to Berlin to finish what it started.    Wouldn't it be great for
